Christmas Party @ the Centre

It was absolutely one of the blissful and cheerful day i had. Such a very nice people to have around and warm welcoming people. Its a friendly meet place i have ever seen. The people were high up at the peak of having fun, cracking jokes, living up to the most, singing, dancing, laughing and what not it was a complete day out i can say. It was a 'FUN'tastic display for the day.

One thing i should mention the buffet, was so yummy which was very hard to control myself eating them. The highlight of the day was the 'Bollywood Dance' which was performed for the members, kept as a secret which thrilled everybody, where they had a chance to see how multi-talented can Physio's be!. It was the dance for 'Jai Ho' song track, which wouldn't have been a good performance without the quick learning of my dance crew, thank you all girls for making it look so proffessional, funfilled and cheerful.

It was a day of opportunity to see all members on a single day, sadly for safety reasons we were happen to sell only 75 tickets. If not we could have filled more people, which i am expecting when the other unit of the campus is ready to use.

25th Anniversary of MS Support Centre

It really wondered me to hear that next year is the 25th Anniversary of the Centre. In another side I am amazed to hear that the centre has started as a Nerve centre and evolved into a Multiple Sclerosis Support Centre for the patients with Multiple Sclerosis treating members of over 250 in number to the present statistics.

As I heard the centre has started with a Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy centre and later with four rooms, each for Physio, Office and oxygen chamber. Later they rented the next door extending the setting and 4 yrs ago expanded further providing a Phyiotherapy Suite, Glass fitted Fitness Suite, Cafetaria, Rooms for Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Oxygen chamber, Chillout room with a Massage Chair and 5 disabled toilets and Office upstairs. Now, planning for further extension of the centre to work in Partnership with the Parkinson's Society of Chester br.

As the next year is the 25th anniversary of the establishment, we think it worth celebrating and events of programmes were planned out for the year,2010 through out the year to raise the profile of the centre by raising a targetted £25,000 on its silver Jubilee.

The Key Message will be Healthy Living, Fitness, Exercise and Positive Active Lifestyle which will be reinforced by the Physiotherapists at the centre.

Events for the 25th Anniversary:

January - New year Detox
February - Sponsored Sky Dive
March - 3rd Directors Lunch
April - MS Awareness Week/ London Marathon/ Chester Food and Drink Festival
May - Carers week/ ladies Networking Lunch
June - MS Challenge
September - Sponsored Race/ Race Day/ Rag Week Event with University of Chester
October - 4th Directors Lunch
November - Gala Dinner
December - End of Campaign Celebration.

Wii Fit in conjuction with Physiotherapy

Am a kind of person move with the world technology. I found the Wii Fit , Wii Sport great in applying them in the treatment of the MS patients to improve their Hand eye Co-ordination, Core Balance, Standing and Sitting balance.
Its also a very good feel to the patients having a go on the games (tennis, bowling, boxing etc)

helps them improve their balance and also release of endorphins which is a feel good hormone like substance produce in brain keeping them cheerful.

With the inseption of the new Wii Fit Plus in the market, am very much looking forward to tailor the treatment programme to fit to our members.

Saltney Outreach Project with MS Conwy Br.

Its been a privilage for me being appointed as a Physiotherapist on a out reach project to provide Physiotherapy servises to MS Conwy Branch in partnership with MS Support Centre, Saltney. The first inseption took on 30th Oct, 09 which was a quite different role to conduct Clinics in such way which was a great feel to me in my Proffessional and Personel Development.

Its a drive of 45 miles from my home and the drive along the sea coast along Colwyn Bay was amazing which is like a rejuvenating pill of my week day work. The venue is Eirias park which is one of the Best leisure centre i hav a ever seen with the greenery allround , the park, the landscapes, the pool, Gymnasia and what not, on the whole its a perfect place for me.
This project is meant to offer 1-2-1 Physiotherapy Sessions and group exercise classes on Fridays at Eirias Park Leisure Centre, Colwyn Bay.
The aims of the project are: -
 Improved access to exercise and physiotherapy for people with MS.
 To educate people with MS about the value of the right type of exercise.
 To make links with a local fitness centre and to help the instructors understand the particular needs of people with MS
 To provide exercise in a ‘normal’ environment and present opportunities to enjoy other exercise and social activities
You will be offered:-
 8 Individual physiotherapy sessions over a period of 8 weeks
 The opportunity to join in a group exercise class with the Physiotherapist
 Opportunity to move on to an exercise class delivered by a trained Instructor. This will help to maintain flexibility and mobility in an enjoyable way
The aim is for all people who sign up for the Physiotherapy Sessions to then attend the Exercise Classes which will be appropriate for all levels of mobility. These classes will be fun; keep you fit and help maintain the benefits of the Physiotherapy. They will also offer an opportunity to meet people and make new friends with whom you can share beneficial activities.

Exciting new project in Conwy! A new joint venture between MS Society Conwy County Branch and Saltney MS Therapy Centre launches on 30 October.

The project will offer 1-2-1 Physiotherapy sessions and group exercise classes aimed at keeping you fit, maintaining flexibility, and of course, meeting new people and having fun!

The sessions will be held at Colwyn Leisure Centre, Eirias Park Colwyn Bay, LL29 7SP on Fridays.

In Patnership with Parkinson's Society

Its been very fortunate for me to work the members of the Parkinson's society of Chester Br. who had a taste day of the Physiotherapy treatments, Group Physio, Vibrogym, Wii fit at MS Support Centre, Saltney.
There were about 14 members in a group class and it was absolutely great experience and feel to the members visited. It was more of Sitting Class working out all muscle group and a fun filled handball game followed by Relaxation Technique.

There's been a overwhelming response from the members who visited the centre and the things are proceeding where the members can have Physiotherapy including the other Complementary therapies available at the centre.

MS Challenge 2009

The 2009 MS Challenge took place over the weekend of 3-5 July. 8 teams accepted the challenge this year on behalf of the Chester MS Support Centre, carrying their MS passengers in wheelchairs over a course set up on Forestry Commission land at Capel Curig in the foothills of Snowdon. The challenge, as always, is to carry the passenger safely around the 10km course – and raise as much cash as possible for the Centre. This year the challenge was made more interesting by

the light drizzle that continued over the weekend. One team - Whitchurch Rugby Club (in drag) – carried Alison Smithson from the Chester Centre over a few puddles and raised over £2,000 for the Centre’s funds. Here’s the team after the event – to see what they did, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKuf1dEWRX4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxkcrGNEnAU

MS Support Centre

The MS Support Centre is a very warm and welcoming place. There are a large number of people who have MS - some walking, some who use wheelchairs - but all of whom are happy to chat about their particular experiences and pass on any tips about partcular ways they manage MS.
This mutual support is one of the major strength of the Centre. Equally important is the wide range of therapies that are available to members. We do encourage members to take advantage of as many as you feel comfortable with - most are free whilst others are subsidised by the Centre. But along with any physical improvement or stabilisation among people with MS is the feeling of regaining control over ones life.

As our logo states “self help is our way of action’, - and it works

Members at our centre come from Cheshire,Merseyside and North Wales.

The MS Support Centre was delighted to accept a cheque for £500 from Airbus earlier this month. The A380 Airbus team raised the money through a range of fundraising activities including cake bakes and raffles, and team members Tony Cookson and Nicky Hickman presented the cheque to Centre Manager, Andrea Wilderspin, physiotherapists Jane Johnston Cree and Kiran K Chiluveru, and Centre member Marjorie Aston.

The First Day of my Job

The first day of my job was very memorable, having met Andrea, the centre manager who helped me with the induction, introduced me to everybody; Paul, the operations manager helped me in the tour of the centre, a very friendly, jovial man; met Jane and Kate, the Physio's @ the centre made me very comfortable and were very helpful to me giving professional advices and helped me in learning practical hands on skills. It was very great to see all the members of the centre very warm welcoming.
